BBC, ITV, Sky and other reputable national or regional publishers are monitored when their work adds first-hand evidence, interviews, documents or accountability reporting. Specialist blogs and practitioner analysis are used only when authorship, sourcing and relevant expertise can be established.

International watch

European Commission, OECD, BEUC, ICPHSO, US CPSC, ACCC Product Safety and other established bodies may lead the source trail for a major cross-border story. International coverage must have a UK connection or demonstrate an unusually significant marketplace, enforcement or emerging-risk pattern.

Brussels and professional networks

Public work from product-safety specialists encountered through Brussels symposia and other professional forums can become a source when the author, publication and evidence are verifiable. Attendance or personal contact alone is not treated as authority.

What is excluded

Routine individual recall records are not copied into the story desk. Unattributed claims, scraped article bodies, unverifiable social posts and sources that obscure their corrections or commercial interests are not published as news.
